Here is intended to be a quick guide to securing your computer and keeping it free from viruses and other malicious software. I will expand on this soon but until then it is little more than a list of recommended programs! Please use the links provided to download these programs, I have linked to official download sites. Other sites may offer compromised downloads. If I have not yet provided a link you can download safely from Download.com. All programs listed here are programs I use myself however you should use these programs at your own risk.
- AVG AntiVirus - The free version should be enough, you should not have to pay for the full version unless you feel you need extra protection.
- SpyBot Search & Destroy
- AdAware
- Windows Defender
- Firefox - A faster and more secure alternative to Internet Explorer (Make sure you don't accidentally get the English (British) version instead of the English (US) version!)
- CCleaner - for cleaning out temporary files, can hit a lot of the places malware hides.
- Defraggler - a decent defrag program thats better than the one included with most versions of Windows.
Passwords - Change your passwords regularly!
